JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Animal shelters in the Jackson metro area are crowded. Denise Cantrell, head of the Community Council for Community Animal Rescue and Adoptions in Jackson, tells The Clarion Ledger that the shelter has taken in more animals this year than in 2009.

American Legion post surrenders to foreclosure
BRAZIL, Ind. — One of Indiana’s oldest American Legion posts has closed its doors. A sign on the door at the post in Brazil announced that Wednesday was its last day of business in the building on Indiana 59 about 15 miles east of Terre Haute.
